The TS video files (Transport Stream files) are known to be ones of the highest-quality, yet usually very large and compatible with very few applications and devices. That’s why the need to convert them to other, more popular formats arises. This program lets you convert TS files into other formats.

The main purpose of this application is to convert TS files into the DVR-MS file format used by Windows Media Center Edition. It can also convert TS files to simple MPG video files. I personally think that one of the main advantages of this tool is that it can convert both ways: this Transport Stream conversion tool can load and convert DVR-MS and MPG files to TS files as well. A big disadvantage is that unless you download and install DVBPortal HDTVPump 1.0.7 or higher separately, the TSConverter won’t be able to render, load and convert the TS files, at least not on Windows 7, the OS that I had installed when I tested this program.

TSConverter also comes with a handy scene cutter that lets you select, cut and convert only the favorite scenes from the loaded video files. It supports multiple types of streams, including NTSC, PAL, ATSC and HDTV, and it supports both MPEG (MPEG1 and MPEG2) and AC3 audio tracks. As you can already see, the advantages and the handy features outnumber the disadvantages of this application. And I haven’t even mentioned yet that it comes with an additional command line interface and that it offers a fast conversion speeds that took me by surprise, considering the large size of the loaded TS file. more
